Strip out, supply & installation of thermal lagging

The service will comprise of:- the strip out, supply and installation, repair and make good of internal and external thermal lagging to the standard BS5422 as set out within the tender specification documentation below. The contractor must also price for access equipment as necessary to carry out the works.

The successful contractor will be required to supply all materials and labour for the strip out, installation, repair and make good of internal and external thermal lagging to the standard BS5422 as outlined in the tender specification documentation below. The contractor must also price for access equipment as necessary to carry out the works. It is expected that the contractor patches up damaged and loose insulation as the insulation is renewed/installed within our buildings.

It is recommended that the contractor uses the relevant thermal imaging photographs.

Skips will be provided by the University for the disposal of any materials associated with the works. Contractors are expected to segregate waste in line with the University’s waste procedures.

1. Johnstown Building

J Block internal plant room

• To supply and fit approximately 27No insulated valve covers.

J3 4th Floor plant area

• To patch up damaged and loose duct insulation and approximately 1m of pipe insulation internally.

• To strip and replace approximately 20m Armaflex Insulation to the external air con unit.

• To supply and fit approximately 29No valve covers.

2. Hirwaun Building

H Block AHU plant area ( Aluminium cladding )

• To strip and re insulate approximately 13m of old cloth insulation and re-insulate using foil back rigid mineral wool pipe section covered with stucco aluminium covering to match newer existing.

• To repair / replace several aluminium clad elbows.

• To supply and fit approximately 27No insulated valve covers.

3. Library

Rear of Library AHU ( External )

• To strip and replace approximately 17m of insulation and re-cover with PIB weatherproof covering.

• To supply and fit approximately 3No insulated valve covers.

Library AHU Internal ( Middle Plant Room )

• To carry out repairs to the ductwork insulation, strip and re-insulate the old cloth insulation, and supply and fit approximately 27No insulated valve covers and refit the existing covers.

Library AHU Internal – ( Lower Plant Room )

• Supply and fit approximately 2No valve covers.

• Refit existing valve covers.

• Re-tape loose duct slab.

Library Internal Mezzanine

• Supply and fit approximately 19No valve covers.

4. Meeting House

• To supply and fit approximately 2m pipe insulation and approximately 1No valve cover.

5. Stilts Refectory

• To strip and replace approximately 53m of inadequate insulation from the water heaters and missing insulation on the cold water mains.

• To supply and fit approximately 93No valve jackets to valves that are physically accessible.

6. Brecon Building

Roof Plant Room

• To replace approximately 1m insulation and Isogenopak.

• To supply and fit approximately 39No valve covers.

• To strip approximately 3 x Isogenopak elbows / re-lag with new Isogenopak finish.

Brecon lower & mezzanine level

• To supply & fit approximately 9No valve covers.

7. Ty Crawshay

• To supply & fit approximately 61No valve covers and approximately 8m of pipe insulation.

8. Glynneath Building

External to boiler house

• To Insulate and weatherproof approximately 16m of pipework using approximately 40mm Rockwool pipe insulation, and cover with PIB for weatherproofing.

Boiler House

• To supply & fit approximately 28No valve covers and approximately 2m pipe insulation.

9. Sports Centre

• To supply & fit approximately 41No valve covers and replace approximately 18m of pipe insulation.

10. Conference Centre

• To supply and fit approximately 11No valve covers.

11. Student Union

Roof AHU area

Air con pipework:

• To remove the existing perished insulation and replace using self-sealed Armaflex/Kaiflex insulation.

• To supply & fit approximately 254m of various size insulation.

Ducting PIB repair:

• To carry out remedial works / Repairs to the PIB weatherproofing on the ductwork to stop further deterioration and prevent water ingress by applying new PIB sheeting to numerous areas.

Pipe work & PIB:

• To strip approximately 105m of old perished insulation and PIB and replace with new.

• To supply & fit approximately 48No insulated valve covers.

Plant Room

• To install sections of insulation between flanges and valve covers and refit poorly fitted valve covers to prevent heat loss between flanges and valve covers.

• To supply & fit approximately 7No additional valve covers to areas not covered in the above point.

12. Wenvoe Building

• To supply & fit approximately 78m of Armaflex self-seal insulation to uninsulated domestic services in the rear of toilets/shower area.

13. Water Tank Pump House

• To insulate approximately 16m of large plastic mains pipework and copper header using BS5422 thickness foil back rigid mineral wool insulation and approximately 21No insulated valve covers.

14. Hub Building - Accommodation

• To supply and fit approximately 24No valve covers.

15. Caerphilly – Mountain Halls - Accommodation – ( 1 of 5 )

• To supply & fit approximately 30No valve covers including dirt separator.

• To strip and re-lag approximately 12m of insulation.

Please note, there are an additional 4 Mountain Halls buildings that are likely to require the same work to be completed.

1. Tramsheds Building

• To insulate and Isogenopak approximately 8m pipework.

• To supply and fit approximately 32No valve covers.

2. Elaine Morgan Building

• To insulate cold water mains pipework and replace approximately 18m of perished/ damaged insulation.

• To supply and fit approximately 60No valve covers.

3. Aneurin Bevan Building

Lower Plant Room (old)

• To renew approximately 7m pipe insulation with foil and Isogenopak finish.

• To supply and fit approximately 15No valve covers.

Top Plant Room

• To supply and fit approximately 28No valve covers.

• To insulate approximately 3m pipework to include incoming alkathene pipe

• To supply and fit approximately 5No valve jackets.

• To replace incorrect and badly fitted valve jackets to approximately 26No valves using correctly measured and manufactured jackets.

• To supply and fit approximately 33No insulated valve covers

• To insulate approximately 8m of pipe insulation.

A13 Plant Room

• To strip and replace approximately 7m of pipework insulation and Isogenopak.

• To strip and reinsulate approximately 34m of pipework insulation and Isogenopak finish applied.

• To supply & fit approximately 10No insulated valve covers.

B Block Internal Plant Room

• To supply and fit approximately 4m of pipe insulation to a number of joints, Tees and other hidden areas. This would require the removal and replacement of the existing valve covers.

• To supply and fit approximately 36 insulated valve covers.

B Block External Pipework/PIB

• Strip and replace insulation and PIB to 2 pipes – 18m

• Strip and replace Insulation and PIB to 2 adjacent pipes -15m

• Apply 2m insulation to bare pipework above low level AHU, and supply and fit 2No insulated valve covers.

A Block Stairwell to lift motor room

• To strip and replace approximately 10m of insulation on the heating pipework.

A Block Roof Pipework

• To strip and replace approximately 17m of large pipework insulation and replace with thicker, more effective insulation and PIB finish.

• To supply and fit 4 large insulated valve jackets

A Block Roof Plant Room

• To supply and fit approximately 33No insulated valve covers and insulate fully a cold water pipe running through the plant area.

• Refit a number of poorly fitted valve covers.

A Block Rear Stairwell

• To Insulate approximately 46m of heating pipework over 5 floors using 48 x 15mm Phenolic pipe section, with Isogenopak finish on approximately 2m to protect against potential damage.

D Block Plant Room

• To supply and fit approximately 9No silver insulated valve covers above new water heater.
