Simple Wound Care PIN.
Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge Clinical Commissioning Groups (BHR CCGs) have a requirement to procure a Simple Wound Care Service for patients who are registered with a GP in the boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.
The Simple Wound Care service will support the achievement of waiting times, activity plans, patient choice and diversity. It will also promote affordable, innovative service models and provide assurance to Commissioners in terms of clinical quality and safety and performance management.
The potential provider will need to demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with other NHS and Independent Sector providers to support improvements in service and continuity of care, across the patient pathway.
The current service provides treatment of the following conditions:
— general post-surgical wound care,
— removal of wound closures,
— wound dressings,
— assessment of wounds for healing progress and infection,
— management of complications,
— antibiotics assessment or similar,
— related or potentially related ailments,
— onward advice and referral as required.
The scope of the draft Service Specification will include the following:
Key elements of the service include:
— general wound care following a surgical procedure as required and based on medical need,
— removal of wound closure materials e.g. sutures and clips following surgical procedure as required and based on medical need,
— dressing of wounds as required and based on medical need,
— assessment of wounds to assess healing progress and to assess for infection,
— advice and referral to senior nurse, other wound care expert as required for more complicated wounds, wounds that are not healing or wounds that may be infected. This integration of post-surgical wound care is essential for appropriate management in a timely fashion and in a manner that is convenient to the patient.
The Provider is funded to treat:
— post-surgical sutures and clips,
— acute wounds,
— superficial skin ulcer management,
— first degree superficial burns.
An episode will generally be managed within a 15 minute appointment. The provider will be expected to provide pre-booked appointments as well as keeping slots available for on the day referrals where patients are redirected from other services. Some wounds may take longer and for this a double appointment can be booked.
The potential provider will be required to report on the following:
— reporting: data is to be collected and submitted quarterly.
Activity levels by service broken down for each site and by First attendance or Follow up attendance:
— episodes of suture removal,
— episodes of clip removal,
— episodes of other removal,
— episodes of wound care,
— total number of referrals,
— percentage of rejected referrals,
— DNA rates,
— average and maximum waiting times experienced by service users,
— average and maximum healing rates by wound type.
Note: providers must clearly record when a procedure requires a double appointment and/or is provided during the weekend.

After this Notice has been published only potential bidders that have expressed interest in tendering for the service will be invited to submit a bid for the service. Potential bidders are further informed that there will also be an online Market Engagement running concurrently with the expression of interest period. Potential bidders will have the opportunity to respond to an online Market Engagement, prior to publication of the invitation to tender documents. Participation in the Market Engagement exercise is not mandatory and participation will not form part of the overall evaluation of bids received. Failure to complete the market engagement questionnaire will not disqualify bidders from bidding for this service, as long as they previously have submitted an expression of interest via the pro contract portal
