Brecon Cathedral has have obtained a NLHF Development Stage Heritage grant and the project will repair the roofs of the building, create a new west entrance, and deliver reordering of the interior, as well as community, sustainability, and interpretation goals. We are seeking a Project Manager to coordinate and assist in the management of the Development Phase of the project, working closely with the Dean and Chapter through the Project Board, overseeing or partly-overseeing the Architect, the consultant team, project staff, and volunteers, and fully engaging local and wider stakeholders. The Project Manager will be coordinate all the work required to prepare and submit the Delivery Stage application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Project Manager will be contracted by the Dean and Chapter to work an average of three days per week for 52 weeks. It is expected that at least two days a week will be spent on site including attendance at all Project Board meetings. The Project Manager will sit on the Project Board. The Project Manager will be required to: Sit on the Project Board. Lead, manage, and coordinate the project team, including the Architect, consultants working for the Dean and Chapter to develop the project, and volunteers. Help to plan and support the development of the project and ensure that timescales and deliverables are achieved. Mobilise and co-ordinate resources. Monitor project progress and provide regular formal update reports to the Dean and Chapter through the Project Board. Provide regular update reports for funders and supporters. The role combines substantial detailed development of a significant capital project while coordinating the activity programmes of the project.

It would suit a candidate with experience of the development and delivery of a capital project, ideally in a heritage context, who also has hands on experience of activity and engagement, and the practical challenges faced through development.

Candidates who have experience of managing funding relationships within a project relating to multiple funding streams common to projects in Wales, will be at an advantage.

Essentials will be:

Demonstrate project management of development projects including evidence of the management of a similar project.

Evidence of leadership and management of a project team.

Ability to work with, support, and coordinate a range of people.

Evidence of administering complex processes and projects.

Demonstration of ability to work pro-actively with a wide range of professionals and others.

Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends.

Evidence of ability to work on own initiative within stated guidelines, manage own workload and prioritise effectively in order to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

Understanding of the Cathedral’s equal opportunities commitments and its processes for health and safety.

Experience of standard office software, specialist software such as Microsoft Project, the Internet, and e-mail.

Knowledge of and experience of working with the community and voluntary sectors and statutory organisations in Wales.

Other valuable skills and experience:

A basic understanding and sympathy for the Welsh language and the importance of bilingualism to the project.

Demonstration of knowledge of the culture and project context of Brecon and Wales in general.
