II.2.4) Disgrifiad o’r caffaeliad
Supply of drill bits for deep geothermal development — drilling in crystalline rock (granite). Drilling in 4 sections, as listed below. (Please note not exhaustive; please see invitation to tender documents for full description/technical specification.)
Drill bits to be delivered duty paid (Incoterms 2020) to the Eden Geothermal site by 21 December 2020, and to be supplied on a consignment basis (except where stated for 26½" bits).
Bit features and bearings for the items listed (or appropriate alternatives as suggested by the tenderer) to be proposed and described by the tenderer in the tender submission.
The tenderer may make recommendations for alternative drill bits based upon experience in previous wells in similar formations. Any additional bit types recommended to be offered on consignment basis.
Section 1: Hole Size 26" (0-300m). Kaolinized weathered granite (200 m??) and sound granite, to be drilled with 1-2 bits. If sound granite is encountered, an insert bit may be required. Drilling technique vertical, with motor and MDW assembly ! Temperature (static) @ 300 m expected < 30°C.
Expected requirements:
1) 1 no 26" IADC Code 115 bit (top section) note - preference to rent this on a price per metre drilled;
2) 2 no 26" IADC Code 547 bits (optional granite, one spare) Note - preference to rent on a price per metre drilled;
3) 2 no sets of 18-18-18-18 nozzles;
4) 1 no set of 20-20-20-20 nozzles for back up;
5) 1 no 26" bit breaker;
8) 1 no nozzle wrench.
Section 2: Hole Size 17½" (300-1 500 m). Crystalline rock — granite. Well to be kept near vertical in this section. Most likely 6-7 bits required. Bits to be designed for high penetration rates and to be hard faced for motor drilling. Gauge wear protection required. Drilling technique vertical with motor and MWD assembly ! Temperature (static) @ 1 500 m expected less < 70°C.
Expected requirements:
1) 2 no 17½" IADC Code 547 bits;
2) 5 no 17½" IADC code 637 bits;
3) 7 no sets of 18-18-18-18 nozzles;
4) 2 no sets of 20-20-20-20 nozzles for back up;
5) 1 no 17½" bit breaker;
6) 1 no nozzle wrench.
Section 3: 12¼" Hole (1 500-4 000 m (MD)). Crystalline rock — granite. Most likely 15-18 bits required. Bits designed for high penetration rates. Starting at approx. 1 700 m the well will be directionally drilled using a mud motor assembly. A better protected gauge and seal area will be required due to the abrasive formation. High temperature seals will be required. The leg protection feature will also be required on all bits and bits must be hard faced for motor drilling. Drilling technique — directional with motor and MWD assembly ! At 4 000 m about 33° inclination expected. Temperature (static) at 4 000 m (MD) expected about 160°C.
Expected requirements:
1) 7 no 12¼" IADC Code 627 bits;
2) 7 no 12¼" IADC code 637 bits;
3) 4 no 12¼" IADC code 737 bits;
4) 18 no sets 20-20-20 nozzles;
5) 2 no sets 20-20-20 nozzles for back up;
6) 1 no 12¼" bit breaker;
7) 1 no nozzle wrench.
Section 4 - 8½" Hole (4 000-5 260 m (MD)). Crystalline rock — granite. Most likely 7-10 bits required, designed for high penetration rates. In this section the well is still being drilled directionally using a mud motor assembly. Better protected gauge and seal area required due to the abrasive formation. High temperature seals will be required. The leg protection feature will also be required on all bits and bits must be hard faced for motor drilling. Directional drilling with motor and MWD assembly ! TD about 40o inclination expected. Temperature (static) @ 4 350 m (MD) expected about 170o; at 5 260 m (MD) expected about 200 °C.
Expected requirements:
1) 4 no 8½" IADC code 627 bits;
2) 6 no 8½" IADC code 637 bits;
4) 10 no sets 18-18-18 nozzles;
5) 2 no sets 16-16-16 nozzles for back up;
6) 1 no 8½" bit breaker;
8) 1 no nozzle wrench.
Field support
Field support must also be provided and we expect the drill bit provider to be skilled and knowledgeable, and to support EGL with drill bit selection.
