The RSPB at Lake Vyrnwy area seeking a contractor to plant 6500 native trees on our reserve, to enhance tree cover in line with our ‘Treescape plan’.
Trees will mainly be 40cm bare root specification, however the RSPB may supply some larger trees for planting, if it is deemed appropriate to enhance the tree age structure within the planting area.
Trees are to be planted on a 20 hectare area of bracken dominated hillside, at a density of 325 stems per hectare. It is imperative that trees are planted in a random/clumped style to simulate natural colonisation, not in straight rows, with spacing between trees increasing with elevation. Trees are to be planted with a wooden stake and without tree guards, with the location and species of each planted tree recorded by GPS device.
The following species will be supplied for planting (subject to availability):
Rowan, Downy birch, Creeping willow, Common hawthorn, Eared willow, Aspen, Blackthorn, Holly, Sessile oak, Alder, Grey/goat willow, Crab apple & Hazel.
The planting area is accessible to within 400m by 4x4 vehicle (see attached map).
Tree planting should take place between 1st November 2024 and 31st March 2025.
We are also seeking a tree supplier REF - LVYTREESUPPLY2024
