In addition to the overview of the scope above, the following more detailed aspects form the additional scope of requirement.
The specification describes the technical requirements for chassis type Variable Speed Drives (VSD’s) over the range of 1 to 2000kW.
Drives shall meet the requirements of LV directive 73/23/EC with supplements and EMC directive 89/336/EEC with supplements.
Each VSD shall be supplied in chassis form with ingress protection to IP20 or for VSD’s free standing panels in line with UU’s standard specifics. Units shall include a heat-sink with cooling fan (if required)
VSDs in the range up to 900kW shall be capable of operation from an input supply voltage of 400V 3phase 50Hz ac (refer to Schedule of Prices) and shall provide a 3 phase output over a range 0 – 100Hz.
Above this rating higher input voltages (690 or greater) may be used. VSD’s below 1kW may be offered having 230V single phase input.
Drives shall be suitable for use within an environment temperature range of 0-40C and RH not exceeding 90%.
The drive shall be capable of operating with centrifugal pump loads up to the specified kVA rating at 50Hz and optionally for constant torque loads (refer to Schedule of Prices). Each VSD shall be capable of continuous non-stop operation at full output kVA and 50Hz.
Super-synchronous operation may be required where the driven equipment is compatible with this type of operation is suitable for the specified application, including the motor.
Each drive shall be fitted with a warning label fixed to the front of the drives removable cover detailing capacitor discharge times.
Each VSD shall include for the following protection functions:
• Short Circuit
• Under or Over Voltage
• Motor Overload with speed dependent adjustment
• Stall Prevention
• Inverter over-temperature
• Motor over-temperature (I2 t, PTC)
• Parameter set-up protection
Each of these if operated shall provide an alarm indication and outgoing signal to a relay and/or serial communications card.
All VSDs shall be supplied with a basic operator panel complete with mounting kit and extension cable (if applicable), which shall be fixed into the door of the drive compartment (fitted by others for drives installed within motor control centres).
This panel shall permit display of the following status values:
• Drive Available
• Running or Stopped
• Output frequency (Hz) or speed (rpm or %)
• Motor current
• Drive Failed (plus code or text to define nature of failure)
• Power monitoring including kW’s, kWhr, voltage (single and 3 phase), current.
The panel shall permit the following operating functions:
• Selection of Auto (for operation by the PLC) or Manual (local) control from the VSD. With the drive running in Auto it shall be possible for the operator to select Manual, whereupon the drive shall commence a sequence shutdown unless a start command is given.
• Starting and stopping of the drive under manual control
• Adjustment of the output frequency under manual control
• Reset of faults
The panel shall permit the following commissioning functions to be carried out:
• Manual entry of drive setup parameters
• Storage and retrieval of same
• Access for modifications to configuration parameters for the drive shall not be possible without the use of a password.
• Back-up/memory storage capability
