Esboniad
West Mercia’s strategic alliance with Warwickshire Police ended as of 8 April 2020, resulting in division of the majority of shared back office functions. A consequence of this has been to generate significant uncertainty and legacy issues, particularly in respect of finance staffing and systems, compounded by additional internal demand to manage a major finance systems upgrade which has resulted in delays to our financial reporting and close down activities. In addition the force has undergone and continues to undergo significant changes brought about by an extensive programme of transformation, which has further been exacerbated by the Covid pandemic.
The combined result of these issues is that we are unable to adequately resource a re-tender of the pension service in the short term as anticipated.
We therefore propose to extend the current contract for a period of no more than 3 months to the 31 December 2020 to allow the authority sufficient time to re-tender the service for the longer term.
