Transport for Wales is the Depot Facility Owner for Machynlleth train maintenance depot and has a leasing agreement with Network Rail. The depot is located next to Machynlleth train station Depot upgrades are required to facilitate the replacement of the Class 158 units with the new CAF Class 197 units. The Scope is for a Principal Contractor to develop the upgrades to GRIP Stage 5 (detailed design), and the deliver the scheme on a Design and Build basis, GRIP Stages 6-8.
Works are planned to be completed by the end of June 2022 ready for the acceptance of the first class 197 ETCS unit (note ETCS is European Train Control System)
The works for Machynlleth Depot upgrades include:
• Roof Access Proposals (within main shed)
• Hoist Relocation (within main shed)
• Shore Supply (within main shed) and upgrade of the DNO power supply
• Storage Improvements (extension to main shed)
• Temporary Accommodation (portable cabin or similar outbuildings)
• Potable Water Facility (storage and dispensing)
• Tanking Water Facility (dispensing)
• AdBlue Facility (storage and dispensing)
• CET Upgrades
