II.2.4) Disgrifiad o’r caffaeliad
The Sheffield SCITT (owned and operated by Notre Dame High School Sheffield) is an accrediting provider of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The Sheffield SCITT understands the importance of academic study, and therefore offers its Initial Teacher Training (ITT) students 60 masters credits as part of the course. The masters credits are assessed and delivered separately to the award of QTS and lead to a separate qualification.
The successful HEI will provide a PGCE programme (which must be validated as a University programme) to our trainee teachers for the academic years 2020-21 and 2021-22.
Any restrictions as to minimum cohort size must be made clear on the proposal as an important consideration for us is the ability to offer a QTS route to help attract new entrants to the profession.
Specific requirements
Content
— the Sheffield SCITT staff must have access to course content for quality assurance purposes and in order to ensure that the PGCE complements our QTS training,
— course content must be designed so that it is appropriate for students in their ITT year,
— course content and materials must be high quality and be evidence-based.
Delivery and assessment
— students must be fully enrolled at the HEI and have access to all resources required to complete the PGCE programme,
— the core course delivery must be closed to other students i.e. any face-face sessions must be run solely for ITT trainees from the Sheffield SCITT,
— course delivery can be face-to-face sessions and/or online tutorials and content. The number of face-to-face sessions must not exceed 8 per academic year,
— all face to face sessions are to be held either at the Lead School premises or on University premises. This can be negotiated once the format of the course has been finalised,
— the PGCE course and assessment should be designed to recognise as much as possible the Masters Level work that ITT trainees are already undertaking as part of their ITT,
— requirements for submission of written and assessed work must recognise workload demands on trainees.
Course structure
— induction must take place during the first half of September to maximise the period of time that students have to complete the PGCE and to support workload demands,
— strong submissions will include flexibility as to when trainees complete aspects of the PGCE. This is to facilitate support for trainees who may need to defer all or part of their ITT year due to personal or health reasons.
