Bangor University is undertaking preliminary market engagement in relation to a potential future procurement for the provision of specialist architectural modelling, digital reconstruction and immersive digital visualisation services.

This engagement is being conducted to help the University better understand the capabilities of the market, emerging technologies, innovative delivery approaches, commercial models and potential procurement options prior to commencing any formal procurement exercise. Information obtained through this engagement may be used to inform the procurement strategy, specification, award criteria and contract structure.

Bangor University will take appropriate steps to ensure that participation in this engagement does not provide any supplier with an unfair advantage or otherwise distort competition in any future procurement process.

Background-

The University is developing a project focused on the digital reconstruction of a former hospital building and the creation of immersive visualisation environments that explore and communicate the relationship between architecture, place and historical through to present day experiences through innovative digital technologies.

The project forms part of a wider programme of research, heritage interpretation, education and public engagement activities. The anticipated outputs will support research dissemination, exhibitions and stakeholder engagement.

Proposed Scope-

The University is seeking feedback from suppliers capable of delivering some or all of the following services:

Research and Discovery-

Review and interpretation of archival and historical source materials.

Analysis of historical plans, photographs, drawings, survey information and research documentation.

Participation in stakeholder workshops and project development activities.

Architectural Reconstruction-

Development of detailed 3D architectural models of a former hospital building.

Reconstruction of the building during three identified phases:

Original construction.

Derelict condition.

Future refurbishment vision.

Modelling of internal and external architectural features, circulation routes and landscapes.

Maintenance of an auditable record of evidential sources and reconstruction assumptions.

Immersive Digital Visualisation-

Creation of immersive visualisation environments suitable for virtual reality, augmented reality, exhibition installations and web-based platforms.

Spatial and time-based storytelling.

Integration of visual, environmental and audio elements where appropriate.

Development of engaging and accessible user experiences informed by historical research and stakeholder input.

Testing and Final Delivery-

User testing and refinement.

Technical optimisation.

Delivery of final models, applications, documentation, source files and agreed digital assets.

Exhibition hardware and equipment setup where required.

Contract Duration-

The University anticipates that the project will be delivered over an approximate period of three (3) years.

Supplier Participation-

The University welcomes responses from suppliers with experience relevant to one or more aspects of the proposed requirement, including:

Architectural modelling.

Digital heritage.

Historic building reconstruction.

Immersive technologies.

Virtual reality (VR).

Augmented reality (AR).

LiDAR and spatial capture.

Real-time visualisation.

Exhibition and public engagement technologies.

Deadline for Expressions of Interest: 30th September 2026

Upon receipt of an expression of interest, Bangor University will issue a Preliminary Market Engagement Questionnaire to interested suppliers. The questionnaire will seek information regarding supplier experience, technical capability, delivery approaches, commercial models, innovation opportunities and market feedback relevant to the proposed requirement.

The University may also invite selected respondents to participate in follow-up discussions, demonstrations or market engagement meetings.

Indicative Procurement Approach-

The University anticipates that any future opportunity may be procured through a competitive tendering procedure. However, no final decision has been made regarding the procurement strategy and feedback received through this engagement may influence the final approach.
