Crynodeb

The University Health Board is responsible for the healthcare of more than 600,000 people living in South-East Wales, providing primary and acute services, plus a wide range of community and mental health care, with acute hospitals at Newport, Abergavenny and Caerphilly supported by community hospitals and extensive community, general practice, mental health and learning disability services. The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board require the regeneration of the garden area on Pillmawr ward to allow for more social and physical interactions for service users and align to therapeutic activities to aid recovery and rehabilitation for people with emotional and wellbeing needs. Pillmawr is a 13 bedded locked mental health rehabilitation ward based in St.Cadoc’s Hospital in Caerleon. The service provides assessment and treatment to Gwent residents aged 18-65 years of age with a diagnosed psychiatric disorder who would benefit from the transition from a medium secure, low secure, and prison setting. Pillmawr also accepts patients from acute wards who require the opportunity to develop their life skills through the rehabilitation and recovery programme. The aim of the ward is to provide an assessment of the patient’s needs with a view to providing therapeutic care and treatment with an emphasis on promoting their recovery. Address: Pillmawr Ward St Cadoc’s Hospital Lodge Road Caerleon NP18 3XQ The Contractor must be based in Gwent and be familiar with the Health Board’s environments and ideally have a track record in supporting people with lived/living experience of acute mental health, learning disabilities and neuro-divergent support needs. The contractor must have a track record in providing gardening schemes, reclaiming land, working within a watching brief environment and additionally have expertise in providing mental health and learning disabilities support for patients with relevant expertise in staffing. The contractor must have experience and knowledge of working in a locked Mental Health inpatient environment and be aware of the measures required to ensure the safety of patients, staff and visitors to the unit. Having knowledge around the importance of anti-ligature and extra challenging equipment within a Mental Health setting is important. The Contractor may recruit volunteers to support service delivery; they will also need to have DBS checks, where relevant and be appropriately supervised. Pillmawr ward is a 24/7 inpatient service. Normal working hours are between 08.00am and 17.00pm Mondays to Fridays. No works will be undertakenoutside of these hours without prior approval from the Health Board. The following requirements must be met in relation to any materials or equipment used: •There must be no sharp edges on any equipment installed that could cause injury or harm. •Any equipment installed must be robustly engineered and attractively blend in with the overall environment of the garden area. •Any materials installed must be hard wearing and withstand all weather eventualities and be anti-tamper to eliminate the risk of patient self-harm or violence and aggression. •Any materials or equipment installed must be done in line with relevant risk assessments to mitigate any risks of patient absconsion or patient harm by ligature. •Any tools or equipment used must be safely removed and locked away following works and must never be left unattended. The purpose of the garden regeneration is to support recovery, physical activity and social inclusion for people with mental health and learning disability needs. The Contractor will ensure that they work collaboratively with the patients and staff to develop a usable outside space to allow for more therapeutic and physical activities.
