Gwalia (part of Pobl Group) are looking for a robust organisation to deliver its Playful Communities project. The project is made up of three elements:
1. Delivery of a six week community play project, using a 20’ wooden Pirate Ship. Provision will visit 6 Gwalia areas for 4 hours per day between 12pm and 4pm. Areas will be determined by need and will spread across the counties of Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Carmarthenshire, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. This project must engage with all local residents to build local relationships, develop a stronger sense of community, identify and where possible remove barriers to playing out.
2. Delivery of three Agored Cymru level 1 accredited Playwork courses run across the 12 month period, in communities where there is the greatest uptake. Training should look to engage between 15 and 30 Gwalia customers during the 12 month period, and courses must also be made available to the wider community, where support to improve local play opportunities exists.
3. Support a minimum of 3 Gwalia communities to be determined in partnership with Gwalia Housing staff, over a 24 week period, outside of the school holidays. Offering weekly 2 hour street play sessions and actively involving local adults to create a legacy of improved access, attitude and environments for play opportunities and community activity.
The project will offer multiple levels of mentoring support to local residents who have been inspired to improve local play and community activities. The project will offer role model playworkers who demonstrate best practice while recognising and valuing sub cultures within communities.
Consultation and participation must be built into this project and views of service users must be acknowledge and acted upon where possible.
The project requires quarterly reporting and a full end of year report inclusive of evaluation findings from Gwalia communities.
The Pirate Ship facility will be gifted from a previous delivery partner to the willing organisation. The Pirate Ship is built onto a trailer, which needs to be towed via a tow hitch to all identified play sites. The winning organisation will take full ownership of the Pirate Ship Facility, and therefore can use the facility outside of this project, but not to the detriment of this project.
Should the project finish after 12 months the winning organisation will remain the owner of this facility and will need to consider the implications of this for their organisation.
The project is scheduled to commence with staff training and prep for week commencing 4th July and delivery on 11th July 2016 so the successful supplier must be in a position to commence delivery from these dates.
